Middle School First Day of School Activity (Math)
I use this first day of school activity to get to know the students and get them started with mathmatical thinking on our first day together. The students complete the worksheet, adding up all the numbers at the end, then as a class we order the totals and assign special names to each student based on their order. It isn't age specific, but I find that my Middle School students were very engaged by the process.

Dice Golf (Adding and Subtracting Integers)
Students practice adding and subtracting integers by playing a fun game of dice golf! Students roll a pair of 6 sided dice and keep a running total of their score according to the scoring rubric. A fun way to practice and review exponential form. This is a partner activity. Each student draws two cards then chooses which one will be the base and which will be the exponent. The goal is to get the higher value. Students then calculate their answers and the student with the larger number wins the round.

This is a pretty cut and dry activity that I have tried in a centers lesson before. This worked really well.
