Just like the regular rules of Bingo, a teacher or group leader calls out a figure and students with the corresponding figure are able to cross it off their list. This colourful version was adapted for the Measurement and Geometry strand of the Australian Curriculum. The teacher or group leader calls out figures in mL or L or percentages/fractions of a L and students mark their grids accordingly. Students love the colourful game boards and the resource is most effective when it is laminated. H

Classroom Management: Get to Know You Game and Rules and Procedures Game

Yes, rules and procedures must be established, but imagine what it would be like to sit through several classes, if not 5 or 6, where each teacher is talking nonstop about them. I propose a more engaging way to not only disseminate rules and procedures and but also reinforce them. This 17-page editable packet includes a Get to Know You HELLO Game and a game template to help disseminate, in an engaging format for students, what you would like for them to know right away to be successful in your

This BINGO game involves converting customary (standard) units of measrue. There are 36 different problems to convert. Each of the 25 game boards have the answers randomly placed on them, so no two game boards are the same. This is a great activity to show customary conversion fluency, or as a checkpoint for CCSS 5.MD.1. Students must know the customary conversions for length, weight, and capacity in order to play the game. I usually give my students a small cup with some Skittles or Smarties

One of the most important things to remember when working with groups of kids is to not allow them to get “bored”. Use this FREE list of 16 games to keep them entertained! This list is quite useful at the beginning of the school year for "get to know you" games or at the end of the year for field days and fun days. It could also be useful when you have a few extra minutes in class, need a reward for your students, or your kids need a little stretch break. Most of these games require absolute

I have used this activity with 6th, 7th, 8th grade level students, as well as reading intervention (remediation) students. Not only does this activity lower the affective filter, it really breaks down the walls of defensive or unmotivated students. I've also played a variation of this game at the end of the year. The snowball prompts were different (e.g. what was your favorite part of the school year, what was your favorite unit, advice for next year's students, etc). Kids enjoyed seeing how t

Icebreaker! Find a classmate who

Kids are sick of the same old boring icebreaker questions! This is not the typical "find a classmate who.." game. The questions will actually get your students to know each other rather than the same questions they get asked every year. It helps to students to know each other and the teacher as well. These fun questions kept my 7th graders busy for at least 10 minutes, and they actually enjoyed it!

Give students a bag of coins and have them sort the coins using the chart. I used this to help the students visualize the coins. They can examine the coins and get a close look at how each one appears. Then I had the students grab a few coins out, sort them and then add the coins. My kids worked in groups of 2-3.
