Customary Conversion BINGO
This BINGO game involves converting customary (standard) units of measrue. There are 36 different problems to convert. Each of the 25 game boards have the answers randomly placed on them, so no two game boards are the same.
This is a great activity to show customary conversion fluency, or as a checkpoint for CCSS 5.MD.1. Students must know the customary conversions for length, weight, and capacity in order to play the game.

Directions: Try to fill in 5 squares in a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally with the signatures of your peers that attest to a claim within one of the boxes below. Kids are sick of the same old boring icebreaker questions! This is not the typical "find a classmate who.." game. The questions will actually get your students to know each other rather than the same questions they get asked every year. It helps to students to know each other and the teacher as well. Money Sorting Graphic Organizer
Give students a bag of coins and have them sort the coins using the chart. I used this to help the students visualize the coins. They can examine the coins and get a close look at how each one appears. Then I had the students grab a few coins out, sort them and then add the coins. My kids worked in groups of 2-3.
