Bears in a cave- Missing addend
"Bears in a Cave" is a fun activity for first and second grade to practice the missing addend. Perfect for partner station time!
1. Provide each student at the station with 10 counting bears (or other small manipluatives, a "cave" (large bowl flipped upside down), and a dice.
2. Student #1 rolls the dice while student #2 turns their back.
3. Student #1 places the matching number of bears in the cave for the amount on the dice.
4. Student #2 begins to fill in the 10 frame with x's with the left

This is a simple, fun math match game to introduce or review math facts 1 through 5. Each set of facts (1+, 2+, 3+, 4+, 5+) are color coded and only have one match card (also of the same color). The instructions for the game are as follows:
Place 7 red/yellow chips in a cup. Shake the cup and spill them gently on the table. Count the number of red chips and yellow chips. Color in your paper to reflect these numbers. Write the number of chips next to the R for red or Y for yellow.
