Primary source debate: Was Abraham Lincoln an abolitionist?
This debate will take students through 9 primary and secondary sources with evidence for and against the proposition that Lincoln was an abolitionist. They will record their evidence on provided graphic organizers, and engage in a structured debate with another team in the class. Works best with teams of 4-6 students. I run two simultaneous debates in my class, so that everyone is involved in presenting the evidence and arguing their side.
