Copper Thunderbird - Canadian Indigenous Art Lesson - Truth and Reconciliation
This lesson discusses Indigenous Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau or Copper Thunderbird. I developed this lesson, with history on the artist, to connect to Orange Shirt day (Truth and Reconciliation) in my classroom. History can be edited to make it appropriate for younger grades. Carnaval de Québec: Ceinture Fléchée Bracelet ENGLISH version
This is a lovely activity I did with my grade 5 class in order to learn about Québecois culture and celebrate the Québec carnival. The full powerpoint explains through text but mostly images how each student can create a handmade bracelet. The design and colours were modelled after the traditional "ceinture fléchée" or arrow sash worn by early French pioneers.
