MY TEACHING STYLE

The Grimes Bros. Mission Statement and Educational Philosophy. Mission Statement The mission of Grimes Bros. is to educate, train, and develop students to excel in any musical environment as a career or for personal pleasure for the enrichment of society. The Grimes Bros. program is rooted in unified curriculum with the belief in developing students to understand the language of music by learning to read standard music notation. Educational Philosophy In the modern era where gimmick methods like tablature are perpetuating music illiteracy, Grimes Bros. believe that in order to understand the language of music, musicians must learn to read standard music notation. The ability to read standard music notation will allow musicians to function in any musical environment in addition to their cognitive understanding of music theory. Music lessons are centered on a unified curriculum that has an educational timeline of musical concepts presented from music method books in addition to supplemental lessons. The method books and supplemental lessons utilized in the music instruction are stylistically centered around Jazz, Classical, and Traditional music, with additional studies in various other forms such as Folk, Country, Christian, and Rock music. Grimes Bros believe that songs should not be taught for the sake of just learning a song, but should be utilized as practical applications to teach musical concepts to the students to further their music education and musical growth.
