I am a speech-language pathologist for upper elementary and middle school students in Georgia with more than 25 years of experience. More than 18 of those years have been in public schools serving students from pre-k to high school. I have mentored student SLPs, served as LEA, school council secretary, and lead RTI and SST teams. I continue to participate in SLP collaborative teams and have been lead SLP in private clinics. Contracting for nursing and rehabilitation facilities and hospitals provided me with invaluable experience. I continue to gain this type of experience on a prn basis, but my passion is working with middle school language impaired students.
If you have to give it a name I would say my therapy style is eclectic, dynamic and evolving. It has to evolve with SLPs' changing roles and responsibilities in the public schools and as we develop more evidence-based practices. I am enjoying creating materials that are easily differentiated with mixed groups. My mission is to make planning and therapy execution easier by providing flexible, rigorous, evidence-based materials that result in meaningful student outcomes.
I am nationally certified through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed in the state of Georgia. My biggest reward is seeing my students transfer their therapy knowledge to real-world success!
I received a M.Ed. in speech pathology, special education from Valdosta State University in 1992. I later earned an Ed. S. in Education Leadership from Valdosta State University as well. Continuing education is extremely important to me. I am a bit nerdy and enjoy reading research in my field and applying it in my therapy sessions.
I am the one and only child to the two most wonderful parents in the world! They raised me in love and faith and taught me that the most valuable thing in life is to treat everyone with kindness, love and respect. My most honored achievements are my two beautiful children. My sweet boy grew up way too fast, has a long list of academic and personal achievements, graduated salutatorian, and is graduating from Georgia Tech majoring in chemical engineering. My free-spirited, keeps-me-on-my-toes little girl is a story all on her own! God had his hand in our family long ago. My daughter was my student when I worked with pre-k and kindergarten. HIS plan worked perfectly even before I knew her. It's a story too long to tell here, but this wonderful girl was truly "God-sent". She agreed to become a part of this "Crazy" family in 2010. I didn't realize how incomplete this family was until she said, 'yes'. Only our two cats have added to our craziness since that day! One has definite obsessive tendencies and the other balances us out with his total "chill!" Diamonds are formed by pressure and silver is purified in fire. Essential vessels are created by The Potter when a lump of clay yields under His command. The sculptor knows exactly what to cut away to reveal a masterpiece. My belief system keeps me grounded and growing every day!
