I taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, and K-5th Art throughout 10 years in private schools, followed by a few years of teaching various subjects and grades in hybrid homeschool academy and co-op settings. (I am also married to a high school math teacher who heavily weighs in on any math resource you may see in my store!) I currently focus on supporting my middle school daughters who homeschool. On my weekends I teach PreK Sunday school at my church and design crafts to be used each week alongside our church's existing PreK-5th grade curriculum.
Hands-on, visual, tactile lessons that bring the subject to life and catch the students' attention
Yet to be added
I have a B.A. in Liberal Studies with English concentration, a CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and an M.A. in Teaching. I am a (mostly) self-taught artist (all artwork in my resources in original and drawn by me.)
THE STORY BEHIND MY NAME… When I was teacher, my heart was burdened for the little sparrows in my class. When was the last time you heard someone excitedly exclaim: “Look! A sparrow!” Never, right? No one notices them. They are just… there. Eclipsed by the brilliant plumage of the flashier birds or the distracting presence of the bigger, more aggressive ones. My little sparrows were the kids no one really noticed. They weren’t amazingly talented, super smart, distractingly misbehaved, strikingly attractive, obviously popular or noticeably unpopular. They floated on the fringes of the classroom culture and often fell through the cracks. They rarely drew attention to themselves and could travel through a school for years and not have one teacher remember much about them. More than anything, I wanted my little sparrows to know that I SAW them. They were put into my class for a reason, and they mattered to me. If you could zoom into my logo, you would see my sparrow is clutching a banner that reads Luke 12:6-7. In this passage Jesus says, “What is the price of 5 sparrows? A couple of pennies? Not much more than that. Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And he knows the number of hairs on your head! Never fear, you are far more valuable to Him than a whole flock of sparrows.” (TLB) My little sparrows were important to me because they were important to Him. So next time you stand up in front of your classroom, look over your students. See if you can spot your little sparrows. Let them know YOU see them; that they are valuable. And can I add one more thing? YOU yourself may sometimes feel a bit... sparrow-ish?... at times. You may feel sometimes like no one remembers your name or really sees you or truly cares about what you are going through. But I know Someone who sees you. He knows you (quite well, actually!) And He loves you very much. ***Need to get ahold of me with a question about a resource or a suggestion?
