Hi! Thank you for stopping by my store! I have taught grades K, 1, 2, and 3 for the past 15 years. I have also been a mentor teacher to teacher candidates earning their Masters in Teaching for the past 11 years. I love working with both children and adults!
I believe that children need two things to learn: explicit instruction and practice. When I create materials, I'm thinking about these two things. Am I explaining what is expected of them so that both the student and adult understand the goal? Am I providing opportunities that allow students to interact with those ideas, process the learning, and improve their own skills? Of course, the process of providing appropriate, differentiated instruction that aligns with how the brain learns to children with a plethora of past experiences and skill bases that shape the way they individually interact with the learning is extremely complex and complicated! I have degrees in special education and elementary education, National Board certification in reading, am GLAD certified (Guided Language Acquisition Design for students learning English as an additional language), have been trained in various trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, and brain-aligned practices, and have 15 years experience teaching a diverse population of students at a Title One school. I put all my best practices into my materials and am continuing to learn and stay abreast of current research and relevant topics to further evolve my practice and instructional materials. I sincerely hope that these resources help you serve the children in your life and that they bring a little calm to your classroom and/or household. You are amazing. The work of teaching one child or many children is not easy. I admire and appreciate you.
I am a mentoring fellow with the University of Washington Masters in Teaching program and enjoy collaborating with colleagues and university instructors to develop mentoring strategies.
