I have taught at David Douglas High School in Portland, OR for seventeen years. Subjects include: Natural Resources CTE (Career Technical Education), College Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Chemistry and Marine Science. I have also worked with The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) for three summers at a local Community College teaching science enrichment classes. I taught English to both College and middle school students in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Currently I am teaching Marine Science and Natural Resources CTE (Career Technical Education) to juniors and seniors at the largest, and one of the most diverse, high schools in Oregon. To capture student interest and have students look at the natural world through the lens of science. I... ...create and sustain interest in the sciences through direct experience. ...allow student freedom to use the scientific method to develop their own hypotheses and follow up with questions, methods, data and conclusions. ...encourage students to pursue scientific knowledge through both social and individual learning.
