A twelve year-veteran English teacher. She taught grades 9-12 in Nevada and New Mexico, including Advanced Placement Literature and Composition, and various honors-level classes. Currently, she is teaching a course that bridges American literature and history at a credit recovery high school in the neighborhood where she grew up. In addition to providing professional development at the school and district levels, she works as a technical writing consultant for a utility and energy engineering firm in her home area.
My teaching philosophy is embedded in my personal values of 21st-century learning. I recognize that critical-thinking, adaptation, and collaboration are essential skills for student success. I want my students to be life long learners while also thinking about the values of global cooperation and the beauty that lies in the human condition. Technology is a large part of this learning style- I use podcasts, info-graphics, and media as extensions for student learning.
In 2018, she became a National Board Certified Teacher and is currently a mentor for National Board candidates in the district. She is also twice nominated for the Heart of Education Awards, a recipient of the Superintendent's Honor Roll, and recipient of Congresswoman Dina Titus’ Certificate of Special Congressional Commendation for Education.
She holds a B.A in English Literature and Professional Writing Certification (2007) from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and a minor in secondary education.
