I have taught 2nd and 5th 7th 8th 9th 10th grades in public school classrooms in rural and suburban areas. I was hired by my school district to write curriculum for a special project after my first year of teaching. I returned to serve as a classroom teacher after the project was finished but from that point on, I began writing curriculum for Teaching is the Sweetest Thing. I am now enjoying being a full-time mommy and continuing to write curriculum from home!
Literacy has always been my passion. Growing up, the public library was my playground and writing poetry was an outlet. My mom is an elementary school librarian, so school always felt like my second home. So when I finally had my own classroom, I always looked forward to reading and writing with my kiddos each day the most.
Getting to spend each day with my kiddos was an honor! I was so thankful to be put in a place to develop relationships with them and get to know them as the little people they were becoming. Other honors include: Teacher-of-the-Year nomination, selected to pilot a brand new writing program for my school district, 3 educational grants from my school district and 1 Donor's Choose project grant fully funded, participation in the National Writing Project Summer Institute, and serving as a presenter at my district summer technology institute on the topic of Google Docs in the classroom.
