I have been teaching STEM subjects in the classroom since 2012. I have taught in both traditional public and charter schools in Philadelphia, where I have taught nearly every secondary science subject there is, including Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, and Physical Science. I have also been lead teacher, both in terms of grade level and content at particular schools, and have been assigned to mentor multiple newer teachers, both fresh out of college and career changers.
Whenever possible and practical, I prefer to engage students in the process of science and scientific thinking through hands on exploration of scientific phenomena and guiding them through both collecting and analyzing scientific data. I think that inquiry and interest are both of great importance to students development in science education, and as such have organized and coached students through school-wide and city-wide science fairs at multiple schools.
I have been a mentor teacher for multiple new (and newer) teachers, and was a PECO STEM Fellow in 2019.
I earned my B.S. in Education with a Minor in Chemistry from Drexel University and my M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from the Universtiy of Scranton. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Arcadia University; my dissertation will focus on Secondary STEM Education in Urban Settings.
