I have been teaching since 2007. I started as a substitute my senior year in college, then began work as a reading and language arts teacher right out of graduation. I began working as our school's gifted coordinator in 2015 in addition to teaching 6-8 grade ELA. I loved working with gifted students so much that I went back to school to get my Master's degree in Special Education with a concentration in Gifted, Talented, and Creative. In this time of big changes, I have also taken on the role of remote coordinator for our school. My job is to facilitate hybrid and remote learning for our K-8 students who have opted to stay home during the pandemic.
I think my students would call me laid back. I don't mind some noise and discussion, and I think a classroom is working best when there is the soft hum of conversation and collaboration. I tend to favor my students working independently, so I don't do a lot of whole group instruction.
