I have over 32 years of high school teaching experience. I taught freshmen integrated science than moved to Sophomore biology and Honors Biology. After proposing and designing a Zoology curriculum course I taught Junior and Senior Zoology as well as Sophomore ELL Biology and Sophomore Applied Biology for disabled learners. I continue to teach Zoology and Biology but have also added the honors course of IB Biology.
Teachers are more than presenters of information. My goal is to empower students by challenging them to be responsible for their learning and to “think”, not just to regurgitate facts. Lessons that combine multiple learning styles are reflective and engaging through the use of graphic organizers, interactive notebooks, hand-on activities, games and labs. All my lessons incorporate analysis to help students reflect and process the information. All lessons have been created and tested in my class. They have been reviewed every year, tweaked and updated when necessary to be the best they can be.
1-Created and presented a Forensics Crime Lab unit at National Science Teachers Association in Las Vegas 1996. 2-Created and implemented a successful year long Zoology course in 2005 that I am still teaching and is still very successful. 3-Wrote and received a grant to help implement the Zoology course. 4-Developed and wrote new curriculum through 4 state standards changes over the last 28 years.
Bachelor of Science Education, Masters of Education
I spend a lot of time reviewing and revising my curriculum to find what works best with my students. In my spare time I love to travel, spend time with my family, including 6 grandkids. I also play volleyball and softball. Keeping a balance between work and personal life makes me a better teacher and keeps me from getting stagnate in my career.
