19 years public school system as an elementary school teacher. I also teach English 101 and 102 at a local community college. I have also published seven children's e-books. You can purchase these at synergebooks.com or ebookdestination.com. On my personal website I have uploaded lessons as SB and PPT: www.writingaboutnature.webs.com. My books are great for use with Common Core ELA/Writing Standards. Go to the document page for more details: www.writingaboutnature.webs.com/documents
I believe in student interaction with literature so I am embracing Common Core. Talking about what one reads creates better comprehension. Literature circles and whole group discussions are my ideal teaching arrangements. I also use a great deal of journal writing which allows me to informally assess student understanding. Writing Workshop using Six Traits is another style of teaching I use. Introducting a genre of writing through reading helps students model their writing after good authors and gives them an idea of what that genre looks, sounds, and makes you feel.
