I worked with students with special needs for over 25 years:

• Owned and taught in a private preschool

• Started a new program for middle schools students

• Taught in a junior high/high school program

• Began new services in a junior high/high school program

• Created a specialized alternative school program

• Was a PK-12 special education coordinator for a large district

As a special education teacher, my style was highly individualized.

A motto I adopted from the very beginning of my career summarizes my philosophy:

If a child cannot learn the way we teach, we must teach in a way the child can learn.

I used a lot of humor and genuine empathy in my classroom. Teaching is hard but so is being a student.

I genuinely respected my students...their strengths and their struggles. ♥ It was so powerful to put myself in their shoes.

I also genuinely respect ♥ you ♥ and all you do for your students.

While I am no longer in the classroom, I see you putting in so many hours, struggling with the increasing demands, and longing to have more time with your family and friends.
