TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught at the community college and university levels for 25 years. I am currently a tenured professor at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California. My specialties are creative writing, composition, grammar, literature, and critical thinking. I am also an award winning poet and writer. My books are internationally distributed. Along with creative writing, I also co-wrote the textbook used in my college's department.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in hands-on instruction where students are actively engaged and working. If they are passively inactive, they will not remember what they have learned.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have won the Educator of Distinction Award at my college 3 times, and I was one of several winners of the Transfer Student's Award for 20 years in a row. My poetry and fiction has been published in hundreds of magazines and on Garrison Keillor's Writer's Almanac. I was nominated for several Pushcart Awards and my books are widely published.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A. in English Literature from Cal Poly, Pomona. M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Cal State, Long Beach
