2 years as a TA (One in Spain and one here in the U.S.); 3 years as a high-school Spanish teacher in low-income schools
I love to teach about culture and implement realia in my lessons. I LOVE grammar and sometimes use traditional grammar instruction, but I like to use things that interest teenagers (Instagram, cartoons, etc.) to practice the skills I teach. I am a little "loca," but I try to give my students a rigorous Spanish education that challenges them and gives them a taste of what college-bound foreign language students should be exposed to and should be able to do.
Fulbright Scholar, Spain 2009-2010
Public School (K-12); University of North Carolina Wilmington (B.A. in Spanish)
I love to teach, travel, and learn. I try to instill in my students a feeling of moral and social obligation and help close the exposure gap that exists in many rural and low-income communities. Students really do want to learn and succeed, and I feel it is my duty as a teacher to help them realize their potential.
