Pop Goes the Classroom is an innovative professional development program that teaches formal and informal educators to effectively integrate popular culture into their classrooms to engage students in relevant learning experiences. Pop Goes the Classroom is the brainchild of KellyAnn Bonnell, MA an informal learning specialist with an extensive background in early childhood and out of school time curriculum and program development as well professional teacher preparation.
We believe in a constructivist approach to learning that is based on the idea that knowledge is built. We see this playing out in early childhood settings as emergent curriculum and K-12 settings as inquiry based learning using a project approach.
Our founder KellyAnn Bonnell was a nominee for the 2011 Arizona Governor's Arts Awards in Arts Education for her work with Pop Goes the Classroom.
Unless otherwise noted, all material published on Teachers Pay Teachers was developed by KellyAnn Bonnell. Mrs. Bonnell has a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Northern Arizona University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the same institution.
Pop Goes the Classroom was founded in 2009. Our website and blog on pop culture integration can be found at www.popgoestheclassroom.com. You can follow us on twitter @pcclassroom and like us on facebook at www.facebook.com/popgoestheclassroom.
