I am a classroom teacher and a Learning Resources teacher. As a Resource teacher, I work with students with Ministry designations, students who benefit from subject-specific or general intensive support, and English Language Learners through a combination of push-in and pull-out programs. As a classroom teacher I currently teach K-4. I have been teaching for 10 years, mostly in grades K-3. I have worked in alternative education settings for students with diverse developmental and learning needs, independent schools, and am now teaching in the public sector.
It is very important to me to integrate authentic, real-world learning opportunities into my teaching. I want students to be able to make connections from what they are learning about to what they see going on in the world. I use an inquiry-based approach as much as possible, and allow my students' interests to guide the learning. This does require a lot of planning on the go and creativity on the teacher's end but I have found it to be so worth it when I see the students' pride and engagement in their learning.
Yet to be added
I have my Bachelor of Education and my diploma in Special Education.
I truly love how teaching is a perfect combination of organization and creativity. I am seriously inspired by planners and planning tools. I would be very interested in hearing from other teachers about what kinds of planning tools would be useful to them, and hopefully I can try putting something together!
