My name is Laura, and I'm a Tech Nerd! Actually, I'm a 7-8 TV Broadcasting teacher who loves to write curriculum, design materials, and work with students. This store is named in honor of my toddler, TyBear (no, not his real name) with the hope that I might be able to afford diapers, er, college, for him someday!
I'm in my seventeenth year of teaching, and I've had the chance to teach a lot of different subjects throughout my career. Seriously. A. Lot. I've taught high school US and World History and ESL, middle school Language Arts, Social Studies, Speech and Debate, Human Growth and Development, Tech & Living (an update of "Home Ec"), and, most recently, TV Broadcasting. I have a special place in my heart for middle school, and love coming up with ways to make it to the end of the day with a smile on my face.
I've presented at numerous district, state, and national conferences on various subjects, such as technology for beginners, service learning, and one-to-one classrooms. I coordinate and develop media productions for an international service organization, work extensively with CTE (Career and Technical Education) outreach groups, and have published curriculum at the district and state level. I was also recently named a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert.
I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History and Education from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa way back in 1999. I also earned specializations in Women's and Multicultural Education, Sociology, and Film History. I started my Masters degree in Administration, then changed my focus to Instructional Technology, only to take a break from grad school to have my little Ty guy.
When I'm not clicking away on my computer, I'm spending time with my family and friends. I also love to read, am a trivia fanatic, and nerd out to a bunch of different television shows, movies, and fandoms! Feel free to follow me on Twitter: @nerdyteacher or on Instagram: @nerdy.teacher
