In return, the student chooses the teacher that has helped him the most in his academic pursuits for the STAR award. • Led study abroad trip in 2011 to France and Italy for eight days. o I led a group of 22 over Spring Break to visit several major cities in Europe including Rome, Florence, Pompeii, Paris, and Versailles. • Led study abroad trip in 2013 to Berlin and Prague for 8 days. o Led also visited Potsdam, Dresden, and Theresienstadt • Created and led the Oak Mountain Fencing Club of 17 fencers who had never fenced before and got them tournament-ready, hosting the club’s first tournament. 2010-present. • Sponsored the Student Government 2008-09 and 2011-Present school years. • Sponsoring a News Trivia Game weekly, 2011-2012 school year. Georgia Independent School Association Conference Presenter – Disease Detectives • Taking elements from Scientific Olympiad, the CDC, and Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? The biology teacher and I were able to construct a turn based game around an epidemiologist’s response to an outbreak. Georgia Independent School Association Conference Presenter – Teaching with War • Using the concept of an interactive war game, putting the students in the positions of power in the government and running scenarios with them to teach them the actual role of the players in a crisis.
