I've taught all levels of college art and design classes since 2010 including Art Appreciation, Digital Literacy for Artists & Designers, Dual-Enrollment Creative Thinking & Graphic Design Technologies, Graphic Design 2, Interactive 2, Digital Design Studio 1 (graduate) & GR122 - Typography 1: Hierarchy and Form (undergraduate). I've also volunteered to teach art for homeschooled students and have run several Art & Design Camp workshops.
As an art and design professor, my teaching style could be described as "Mentorship Through Discovery." I believe in placing a high emphasis on my students' exploration and discovery, serving as a guide or mentor through their creative journey. I encourage my students to experiment, try new techniques, and bring their unique ideas to life, promoting an environment of creative risk-taking and problem-solving. In my classes, I demonstrate techniques, discuss principles, and share relevant examples from both history and the contemporary art world. Then, I give my students the space to apply these learnings in hands-on projects. I believe in the power of collaboration and often design group projects to foster communication and teamwork skills. In essence, my teaching style is centered around nurturing creativity and helping each student build confidence in their artistic and design capabilities. It's about providing the tools and resources they need to succeed while celebrating the unique voice and vision each student brings to the classroom.
