TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is Heather Coo, and I am a culinary arts teacher based out of Southern California. I have been teaching junior high for 5 years, and previously taught high school culinary for 2 years. Currently, I am the instructional coach, electives department chair, and culinary arts teacher at my school site, and a member of the district committee for distance learning.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In my opinion, students learn best when they are given short bursts of instruction with plenty of time to use material in meaningful ways, while collaborating with their peers. My teaching style is student centered and relies on hands-on, project based learning to accomplish these goals and support depth of knowledge, higher order thinking, differentiation, and student engagement.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My lessons are supported by the mindful and purposeful use of technology to support students in both traditional formats, hybrid, and distance learning.Though culinary arts can be a challenge to teach online, I have created many student-tested resources to make this possible while maintaining high standards for the teaching profession, and my student-centered, project-based approach to teaching.
