TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching at different schools in different settings, grades 1-11 but mostly at a very diverse school here in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Almost half of my students have difficulties requiring adaptation of some sort and about half of my students were not born here - many have been here less than 1-2 years. I also have students who are native English speakers, some who had intensive English for half a year in grade 5 or 6, and some who never had an English class before!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am very dynamic and try to get all students to progress as much as possible, no matter the level they are at when they first walk into my class. I try to use English only at all times and push my students to do the same. I try to always set them up for success with enough preparation and resources to complete the task at hand. When creating activities and assessments, I follow the principles found in 'A Practical Guide to Assessing English Learners' by Coombe, Folse, and Hubley. I find their book so informative and helpful!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I first got a degree in Tourism Management but reoriented my career a few years later getting a Bachelors' Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (at the primary level, secondary level and adults)

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My first career was in Tourism then I decided to go back to school to become a teacher and haven't regretted my choice! I am also a mom to 2 growing boys who keep me on my toes...and help me better understand my students!
