I have been teaching middle school for 14 years and sixth grade is my love. I have in fact taught sixth grade World Geography, and Ancient Civilization, as well as eighth grade U.S. History a few years. I have a Master of Science degree in Social Studies and am currently pursuing a doctorate in Instructional Leadership. I have taught regular classes, ELL Students, gifted and advanced in public schools, magnect schools, IBMYP schools and currently a Cambridge School. All schools were Title I.
I follow the constructivst style of teaching whereby lessons are desgined in a scaffolding manner - each activity building upon the other. Additionally, activities are student centered. I believe in the students uncovering most information and myself as the facilitator. I only have high expectations for all students and therefore my lessons promote abstract and critical thinking. If I ask my students to do it, I believe they will.
Mostly parent promotion:-) however, I had a student place 2nd in a Black History Essay Competition in the country's 3rd largest school-district. The suprise is that I am a history teacher not a language arts teacher. Ive presented to over 400 Social Studies teachers in this same district on the topic of Technology Integration in Social Studies Classrooms in 2011. Won a trip with Discovery Education Crew to Vermont in Summer of 2012
