I'm a speech therapist working in the public schools. I'm currently focusing on 1st through 5th grades, however I also have the entire elementary autism program in my school district I also have a few younger students. I'm in a very small school district which gives me the opportunity to team with my coworkers about speech-language issues from birth through high school. I also have experience working with prek through 12th grade because of the flexible caseloads that come with small school districts. I have a very diverse caseload and continually think about it in my therapy planning and development. My school district is in an area of the city that has multiple languages (I think we're somewhere 20-30 range). I currently am working with students and families from four continents. My students also have a wide variety of primary disabilities. All of this make for interesting, and challenging work days and therapy planning. I've been making my own materials since graduate school and am really looking forward to sharing them.
Lately my big focus has been on literacy across language and articulation sessions. It's a school wide initiative and I'm incorporating what I'm learning into my therapy sessions. One big way is looking at the literacy testing and the applied language based literacy skills my students are missing and incorporating that into my therapy.
