While in San Francisco, I volunteered with the Bay Area Arts Relief Organization where I worked with psychologists and therapists to help children who were traumatized by the Oakland fire. This was my first experience teaching children and I saw first hand how art therapy could contribute to the healing process. A fire was lit and for the first time I realized my true calling. After having my own two children, I was asked to teach art in their classes and found the experience extremely rewarding and inspiring. I continued to teach, develop curriculum and went on to take Early Childhood education classes. Have been teaching preschool through eighth grade in public and private schools for over fifteen years.
Teach every child how to express themselves through art by learning to draw. Learn a variety of art techniques and work in a variety of media. Students will learn the foundations of art through the elements and principles of art. Study the art of artists, cultures and historical periods. Develop mental skills that are not developed in other disciplines. Have fun! Emphasis is on motivation and self-expression. There are “no mistakes.” Art is a process of learning
