I have been a classroom teacher for the 22 years. After many years of teaching multiple grade levels of social studies, math, and ELA, I have started teaching only 8th grade civics four times a day. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to teach the one subject area that I am most passionate about. It has given me the opportunity to really focus on on my teaching practice and develop lessons that will truly meet the needs of my students.
When people ask my what a typical day in my classroom looks like I am unable to answer that questions because no two days are alike. I try to run an organized classroom where students are active participants in their learnings. I prefer to have students use interactive activities that combine learning and fun. I also focus on the development of the important educational tools that students will need as they progress through school. I pay a lot of attention to learning how to read out of a textbook, take notes, and how to study.
