Kate has been teaching 7th grade U.S. History and 8th grade World Geography for 3 years. She has worked as a curriculum developer and instructional strategist for her school district for 2 years. She is a leader in project-based learning and the use of arts integrations strategies within her curriculum. Kate has also taught 9th and 10th grade World History and 11th grade U.S. History. In addition, Kate has developed various professional development workshops and seminars that have educated and shaped her school and district mission statement and methods.
Arts integration and project-based learning play key roles in Kate's teaching style which produce high-level engagement and critical thinking as well as real-world application and cross-curricular opportunities within lessons and units.
Kate has been awarded a fully-funded research grant for an immigration study in her hometown of Buffalo, NY which spanned one year and resulted in a conference presentation to the board of grants of SUNY Buffalo, along with a published paper on Yemeni Immigration Patterns and Process in Lackawanna, NY. Kate has been awarded the Honors Convocation for Academic Excellence 2 consecutive years at SUNY Buffalo. Kate has won the Staff Spotlight Award in her school twice, which she was selected for by the entire staff as the teacher for the month. Kate has won the Teacher of the Month Award in her school and district, which is selected by the administrators to identify the most important teacher in the building/district.
Kate received her Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education 7-12 from SUNY Buffalo in 2013. She is currently working on obtaining her Master's degree in Education Administration/Curriculum and Instruction. She intends to earn a PhD in History.
Kate is happily married to the love of her life, Matt. They live in Las Vegas, Nevada with their two beautiful children, Luke and Kennedy, and their dogs, Rocky and Apollo. She was raised in Buffalo, NY and intends to return there in the near future to raise her family and continue her work in education.
