Teaching Reading, Science, Writing, Math, Science, Art, Drama
I like to include culminating projects in units that I teach, incorporating as much technology, art, and hands-on activity as I can.
Update: Guess what?! My dreams have come true! I now teach Middle School Art…what a blessing! Previously stated in this section when I began: I have had the opportunity to be a presenter at a couple of state conferences about using technology in the classroom. I have also been blessed to share some great technology tools with other educators, in various other PD opportunities and PLC meetings. In the past, when I was more involved in my artwork, I won numerous art awards at the state level. Each year submitted, I won first place and grand champion in art. As college and then teaching became more of a priority, I just got too busy to create my art or no longer felt to need to compete. At times, I teach various art sessions and after-school art programs, but one day, I would like to do more with this. So far, I have never officially taught art, but instead taught Reading, Writing, Science, Math, etc. Maybe one day, I will get that opportunity! Another great dream I have is to teach technology or be a technology resource teacher in helping other educators to learn how they can incorporate technology and then help them to grow as educators as they begin to use and produce their own technology resources. Another avenue I would like to pursue is to teach either Middle School or High School students, in a technology class, how to create eBooks and possibly publish those, create podcast tutorials for students, webpage design, and other learning tools through the use of various technologies that are often over-looked. The ultimate dream job would be sharing the two things I love: technology and art, either as a classroom teacher or as a resource teacher, helping others to incorporate these things, building lessons, creating resources for others, specific to what they need in their own classrooms. Gradually, I continue to grow into the person I want to become. I have had a lot of help with that and am very thankful for all of the opportunities that I have been given.
Master's Degree in Art Education (P-12), Master's Degree in Educational Leadership (P-12), Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (P-5), Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education. Before beginning my career in education, I substitute taught for three years. During that time, I was able to experience teaching as a full-time substitute teacher, in which I taught High School Biology, Introduction to Chemistry and Physics, and Earth and Space Science , as well as High School Nursing classes including various introduction to Health and Health Sciences, Anatomy and Physiology, and other Health Science-related courses. I also taught first grade (self-contained) during this time, all before beginning my own teaching career. After that, I taught fifth grade for five years until a consolidation happened and I switched to first grade. I have additionally taught second grade Writing and Math. Then I got the amazing opportunity to teach Art at the Middle School level. It has been my dream to teach Art since I was a Middle Schooler myself so to get to teach Middle School Art is definitely a blessing beyond measure! This is my second year teaching Art at the Middle School and I love it and am so thankful for this opportunity and talent that I have been blessed with! No matter the age level or grade level taught, I have found that there is much to learn as a teacher, growing as a professional and as a more efficient, effective educator.
I am in my third year teaching Middle School Art and Drama so many of my products are from when I taught second grade Math and Writing prior to that. I have had experience teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Art, second grade Writing and Math, first grade self-contained, and fifth grade Reading and Science. I have also had experience in teaching art, as I have taught several after-school art programs, Drama Clubs, and other art programs through various outside resources. I enjoy any chance I get to paint or draw but deal with the lingering lack of time to do those things. I also enjoy creating activities and resources through technology and allowing my students to use technology. I am so excited to get to teach art again this year because that has been a dream of mine for so long! I am very thankful for this opportunity!
