Jessica Mahoney

Hi everyone! My name is Ms. Mahoney and I am a social studies teacher in the state of Vieginia. This year I am teaching U.S. History to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Previously I have taught Government, World History, and Geography. Before getting into the classroom I received my B.A. in History and an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland. I also had experience working in curriculum and policy development for classrooms. A side hobby of mine if graphic design and I love creating cute slides and worksheets for my students. I have seen that my students really get engaged when they see that I have put time and effort into the work I am giving them.

My master's thesis was focused on how discussion-based learning can be used to enhance student engagement, and from that research, I learned the value of getting students up and talking in boosting comprehension and content/community engagement. Due to this I value using both discussion and project-based learning in my classroom!
