TEACHING EXPERIENCE

We (Jan and Nancy) have been teaching 5th grade for 17 years. We teach at a title one school and have students with many challenges. We collaborate and we never stop learning. We just received our math endorsement. We are Singapore Math Presenters and have been using Singapore Math in our classroom for the past 8 years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

When we teach a new math strategy we always start with the concrete, move to the pictorial, and then to the abstract. Our goal is for our students to understand math instead of memorizing a rule.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

National Presenters for two years at The Singapore Math Conferece (SDE). Presenters at NCTM UT.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

We have both received our Math Endorsements. We have been to SDE's Train the Trainers and attended their Singapore Math Conventions for the past 8 years. We have been presenters for SDE the last two years. We are also district trainers and present within our state.
