TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is Amy and I have been an international ESL teacher for 10 years. I have taught in Spain, Italy, China and Australia to students of all ages, but with a particular focus on adult education. Since January 2020, I have been delivering Zoom classes to mainly adults and young adults based in Spain. I have also worked as a freelance designer and demo teacher for companies based out of China and India. Like many others, the beginning of 2020 signalled a sharp career shift for me into the digital world. I have since become a full-time freelancer and set up my own online resort, the Isle of English. In the last couple of years, I have had many opportunities to get creative and I have become highly passionate about online learning. As my focus is on preparing students for English speaking exams in Europe, I have been coming up with new ways to keep students engaged and excited about improving their speaking skills, whatever their goal may be. I have helped many adults and young adults increase their vocabulary and become well-versed and well-spoken in disciplines such as medicine, biology, research, law, information technology, ethics, business, and politics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My lessons are all about helping adults and young adults improve their English speaking skills for specific purposes. Therefore, I create a safe online classroom environment where they can speak uninhibited about all topics without fear of making mistakes. I vary the material we use but generally connect the order of topics so that students can reuse vocabulary they have learned. I love to incorporate music activities, video tasks and speaking games into my lessons too. Most importantly, I keep the tone light and make time for laughing.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from the University of Highlands and Islands in Scotland, 2006, with a BA in Music. As well as a 120-hour Certificate 4 in TESOL and a 120-hour online certificate in TEFL, I also obtained a certificate for ESP (English for Specific Purposes) from Norwich University, which focused on science and technology. I also have a B2 level of Spanish.
