Nationally Board Certified Teacher with 21 years experience teaching all classes from Pre-Algebra through AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics. Named the Maryland High School Math Teacher of the Year in 2011, I continue to blend the curriculum with technology to help both student engagement and comprehension. Currently an a reader for the AP Statistics exam (past 5 years) in Kansas City, MO. This helps me fully understand both the AP Statistics Free Response Questions and see how to best modify my curriculum for continued student success on the AP exam.
I believe in teaching both the theory with the math but also practical real-world uses of the current topic. These include a project with cryptology utilizing matrix multiplication, land navigation and trigonometry, and projectile motion and basic quadratics, to name a few. I also believe technology is important in education but should enhance a curriculum, not overpower it.

I started in the military and after moving into the National Guard, began working with a contract engineering firm. I realized my calling was in teaching and completed my certification. After teaching for 5 years, I needed a change and went into engineering sales work, primarily in the manufacturing sector. With the birth of my daughter, I wanted to spend more time at home but also realized how much more I could do in the classroom than in a manufacturing plant. After only two years back in the classroom, I was named Carroll County's Teacher of the Year and was a Maryland Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist.
