I have taught since 1999 in nearly all of the Social studies fields. In 2008 I completed my Reading Endorsement, so I have been trying to incorporate more of those ideas into my classroom instruction. I taught Geography for 7 of those years and world history for 8, and I've now taken on AP World History. I've also recently completed my gifted endorsement.
I use to be more student centered in my approach, and still look to incorporate group activities and individual research and process. However, I also have learned how important modeling is and preparing students for the college classroom. I think that the high school classroom should be a mix. I love active learning, incorporating technology, storytelling and discussion (both in the whole group and small group).
