TEACHING EXPERIENCE

PRE-TEACHING EXPERIENCE

2011-14: I worked in tech, where I processed sales of computers and tablets to businesses such as libraries, schools, and corporate offices.

During this time, I led PD's on how to use computers to create educational resources. I began creating my own shortly after. The following professional experiences shaped how I approach learning and how I design the materials I provide here.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

2014-15: I was a classroom aide for nonverbal students with autism.

2015-16: I taught 8th and 11th grade US History (as well as carpentry/construction trades) on Long Island (in a school that housed grades 7-12 and offered various opportunities to enter trades programs).

2016-18: I taught 12th grade Criminal Justice, Economics, and Participation In Government.

2018-Present: I currently teach Global History (9th and 10th).

My experience since 2015 has consisted of working with English Language Learners and students with IEPs. My handouts are designed to simplify materials so they can follow while simultaneously challenging the AP-level students in the room.

MY TEACHING STYLE

TEACHING STYLE

Teacher Choice:

My handouts offer multiple activities that can be used in a single period. Choose the activities (and the order in which you'll use them) depending on the needs of each class. I start with guided notes in a self-contained setting, but jump right into the primary sources with advanced students.

Student Choice:

My handouts offer two options for assessment. One option is always to answer the AIM in a paragraph. The second option differs daily and may rotate between creative exit tickets, college-level responses, or opinion pieces.

Font:

I use comic sans for text analyses. I have found that students intimidated by reading and writing approach this specific font with more comfort.

Images:

I try to include as many public domain images as possible in Slide/PowerPoint/Keynote presentations to reinforce vocabulary for ELL students and to maintain engagement in an ICT setting.

Organizers:

My handouts use organizers such as Venn diagrams, KWL charts, See/Think/Question activities, and Frayer models for vocabulary.
