For the past five years I have been teaching a variety of rigorous history courses at Leto High School in Tampa, FL. Subjects include Women's Studies, World History, AP European History, US History, Dual Enrollment US History, and Humanities. Through teaching Dual Enrollment, AP, Regular, Honors, and FUSE I can assure those purchasing my products will find that the activities engage the mind of all students while allowing them to actively participate in the analysis of history; much like historians do! Prior to my teaching career, I graduated from my MA program in Ancient History at North Carolina State University. Throughout that time, I was active in a number of archaeological excavations in Petra, Jordan. My responsibilities included supervising the progression of excavation in a trench, but mostly, I was a ceramologist, reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting the ceramics collected throughout the entire dig season. My experience in "doing" history is vast, my experience in teaching history can always be adapted and enhanced through the exploration of more information and practice.
I have always believed that "to do" is "to learn." I think one of the most rewarding experiences in my life was being a Trench Supervisor in an archaeological excavation; I interpreted history FIRST HAND. This is the teaching style I implement in my classroom. Many of my lessons are paired with STEM activities that also force students to exercise their artistic flare. They "do" and they "learn" from their actions.
