A native Texan, I have already taught in five different countries to a variety of age groups and for numerous subjects. I also have obtained two B.A. degrees in education and a master's degree in Educational Leadership. At my first full-time teaching position in Houston, I had the pleasure to teach French I, and French II on the high-school level and English for 6th graders. I moved back to Nashville, Tennessee in the 2019 school year and became the founding writing seminar teacher at a new charter school. I focused on helping students to analyze informational and argumentative texts, as well as how to write in various essay formats. I started my international career by teaching high school (9-11th) English in Barranquilla, Colombia for three years. I also learned new skills, such as teaching AP Language and Composition. Now, I'm working at a school in Medellin where I teach pre-AP English I, AP Language and Composition and AP Seminar.
I've developed my own style, where I try to make learning as fun as possible while still cultivating discipline and respect. The most important thing I’ve learned, the most important teacher secret, is that it’s all about the kids. Building strong and healthy relationships with students are not only the secret to their mastery as a learner, but to their growth as a human. High schoolers are dumb, but mostly it's not their fault because their brains are still growing. I did dumb things in high school, and you probably did too, as we all did. High school is like the final practice stage of a video game, the least restrictive type of training wheels, where teens learn how to be independent. It's also the time when teenagers start to gain independence from their parents and figure out who they are, what they're passionate about, and what they want to do with their lives. It is such a unique, wonderful, and challenging stage of life that no one should have to get through alone. I've worked with students in the poorest parts of Houston and the most wealthy in Barranquilla, but everywhere I've taught there are students who just need someone to believe in them. At every school, some of the students who started off the most challenging are the same ones who I built the strongest relationships with, even flying across continents to see them graduate. At the end of the day, it’s all about helping to cultivate their growth as learners and humans, and that’s what I hope to continue to do for the rest of my life.
