TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for 10 in years. I started in New York, moved to New Jersey, and now live in Florida. I'm currently writing a kid's animated series that will include original music.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use music daily in the classroom and try to fuse the arts into the curriculum whenever possible. I have seen the results of using this style and it's been amazing watching my students flourish. I am on a mission to bring the arts back to kids!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was selected to give a demo lesson for Governor Corzine in New Jersey. At least I was able to play my guitar for him at the end of the demo lesson. Is playing for your governor an honor?

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated with a a masters in education from Pace University in NYC in 2003. Life is an ongoing education and keeping an open mind to learning is your best asset.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Gilbert Rocks is a musician with a mission in mind. One day, way back in 1993, Gilbert decided that he wanted to start a rock band that would create amazing music. So, he created Safety Orange with his good friend Sol Turpin. Safety Orange is still going strong today. Together they rocked many shows around the San Diego and Los Angeles areas. They even opened up for a variety of national acts including Blink 182, Ween, Kyuss and many more. Fast forward to 2000. Gilbert was on his way to the big apple. He was mesmerized by all of the big lights and fancy sounds. He played on his guitar for hours at a time. He became a teacher in Brooklyn, NY and molded the minds of future generations. Music was his tool that he used daily in the classroom. By the end of the year, every student wanted to rock the guitar or another instrument just like Gilbert. One day, the light bulb came on. Gilbert knew that he had to create a record for kids who rock. He wanted to inspire kids to become the next generation of musicians that would create music for the world to hear. This couldn’t be any record. It couldn’t be a hokey pokey kid’s record. It had to straight up rock! He ran home as fast as he could and started working like a mad scientist in his home studio. All of his influences started pouring out into his new kid’s record. Bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction, and Sublime. The songs came from all of his kids in the classroom. He had his test market in front of him everyday helping him mold his songs into sonic masterpieces for the world to hear. He wants to create kid’s music that rocks! He has been a teacher in the classroom for the past 10 years. Currently, Gilbert is expanding his project to include an animated series called Gilbert Rocks. Gilbert Rocks is about a 13 year old who has his cronies, fans, and a band. The soundtrack for this tv animation will be none other than Gilbert Rocks music! This is yet another form to inspire kids to do music. Gilbert’s plans also include touring the country to put on live concerts, creating music to teach kids in the classroom environment, and creating songbooks for kids to learn how to play and write songs.
