TEACHING EXPERIENCE

In the past 10 years, I have worked with elementary Math Specials classes, all the way up to Precalculus. I was in the public school for 8 years, working the last 3 at a STEM High School. I now work for an online international private school, and have taught nearly every widely-used high school math course. My goal is to create resources to simplify the many tasks that make teachers' lives so needlessly busy and that will help parents and students as well. Currently developing resources of all sorts, also housed at flippinmath.com. From instructional manipulatives to projects, from review 'booklets' to lesson-planning software, I aim to give you back some of your most valuable commodity: your time!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to make my math students think for themselves. I give a lot of application problems, exploration tasks using Desmos or Geogebra, and have the students engage in projects as often as possible. I believe students perform best when they are engaged in authentic math. That being said, sometimes kids just need easy-to-understand notes!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

EPIC Math Teacher of the Year (2021), Fusion Global Academy

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I got my Bachelors in Music Education from UGA (and have plans to complete a curriculum to develop sight reading skills in young learners). After teaching in a small private school for several years, I needed a more lucrative position. This led me to become a math teacher, studying online through Western Governor's University to receive my Masters of Arts in Teaching (Mathematics).

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

As an educator in today's society, I feel an enormous sense of duty. Technology has evolved exponentially over the past 20 years, leaving behind the 'old-school' traditions of education. I am interested in putting technology to good use and developing resources that help teachers to the same. Check back often for new solutions -- and if you have ideas for what would be useful to you, please reach out and let me know! tmr@flippinmath.com
