From 2016 to 2018, I taught college composition, creative writing, and magazine writing for two years as a teaching assistant at Texas Christian University. Throughout this time, I worked with freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and adult learners. Currently, I work as a Middle School Resource teacher, and I teach 6-8th grade math, science, L.A., Spanish, and social studies. I primarily work with students who have various learning disabilities.
Grammar and writing are my two main areas of focus. I believe in teaching with empathy, first and foremost, because students need to understand they're welcome and wanted in the classroom. My younger sister has learning disabilities and severe ADHD, so I grew up helping her find alternative routes to learning. There are so many students who have been swept to the side because of their learning disabilities, and they often come to believe that learning is some awful thing. I strive to change that. I do my best to create engaging assignments that will keep the students excited as they learn, so that they can absorb information in a practical yet fun manner.
