TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Over my five-year ESL teaching experience, I have taught in three different countries. After graduation with a BA English and Politics, I traveled to Thailand where I attained my TESOL. Thereby, I taught for 5 months at Surasak Montree School in Bangkok to 14 and 16 year olds. Upon arriving home to Toronto, I was employed by Milton Prep Academy in Markham, Ontario. Here I taught ENGEO and ENG4U to high school international students. After moving to Ireland, I was employed at Donegal English Languages School where I teach teenagers and adults throughout the year. I thereby went on to teach IELTS preparation at Letterkenny Institute of Technology to university students. Over the past 2 years I have been teaching English on iTalki. I obtained a CTESL certificate in 2021 from Carleton University and I am currently pursuing my MA Applied Linguistics at York University. I also teacher at a college in Toronto.

MY TEACHING STYLE

As an educator, I hold the philosophy that we learn as we teach. In the classroom I am interactive and energetic. I strive to push my students and to learn as much as I can in return. Hereby, my students very valued in the class. As an online ESL teacher on iTalki, I value the use of low-cost, easy-to-use, digital resources for one-on-one use. My resources can be of use to online and in-person educators.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Hello Fellow Teachers! My name is Ryan Newman and I have been an English teacher for more than five years. I have been publishing teaching materials for three years. A large part of my inspiration for creating language teaching materials has come from my language learning and teaching experiences online, in 1-on-1 formats. I have noticed a lack of materials and support for teachers in this area, which is one reason why I have chosen to take the materials which I have used with thousands of students online and offer them online. Also, this allows me to live my dream and great passion in the most creative way possible. As for teaching experience, I have taught English in three countries (Ireland, Thailand and Canada), to students of different ages, nationalities and proficiency levels. As of 2022, I have been teaching on the language teaching platform iTalki for three years. I have also taught French on a similar platform called Preply. I am also an Essential Communications instructor at a public college in Toronto, Canada. I aspire to continue my work in post-secondary academic institutions. As a fully-qualified, professional teacher, I have obtained a TESOL (Hua Hin, Thailand, 2017), a CTESL (Carleton University, Canada, 2021), and a MA in Applied Linguistics (York University, Canada, 2022). In addition to teaching 1-on-1 classes online, I teach part-time as an Essential Communication instructor at Centennial College in Toronto. Aside from teaching languages, I am also an avid language learner, a content creator with a YouTube channel and a curriculum developer. In my spare time I enjoy creating materials for the online language teaching community. As a teacher-trainer, I have developed courses (ie. 120-hour TESOL course) and trained dozens of teachers to begin teaching languages online. My motto is we learn as we teach so I hope that these resources help you, dear teachers, to continue your learning and teaching journey.
