TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is Alex and I love teaching!

My first teaching experience (other than Sunday School and babysitting) came in June 2012 when I taught a summer English camp in Hong Kong and also traveled to Laos. For three semesters while I was a college student, I taught adult ESL to Hispanic and Russian adults as part of a community organization. After student teaching 9th, 11th, and 12th grade ELA at an international school in Chiang Mai, Thailand, I graduated from Toccoa Falls College in May 2014.

I spent the 2014-2015 school year teaching first and second grade ESOL in pull-out groups as well as intervention one-on-ones at a public elementary school in South Carolina. I also continued my work with adults at a church evening ESL program.

From August 2015 to the present, I am teaching high school English (both literature and language arts) at a private Christian International School in Atlanta, Georgia. I teach grades 9 through 12, and I also teach an after-school ESL class for middle and high school students.

I love what I do!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am experimenting with many different styles and methods. Currently, my curriculum is grammar-heavy, with an emphasis on independent reading, vocabulary, and creative writing. I am also building my department's literature collection.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Bobby Carter Memorial Award for Christlikeness in Teaching, May 2014

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I spent my formative years attending private Christian schools in Texas, Florida, and South Carolina. I graduated magna cum laude from Toccoa Falls College in May 2014 with a B.S. in Secondary English Education with a TESOL endorsement.

My certifications are as follows:
English 6-12 with TESOL in Georgia
Middle Level Language Arts and High School English in South Carolina
Secondary English with a Bible Endorsement through Association of Christian Schools International

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip and my favorite restaurant is Chick-Fil-A. I am happy married to Mr. K of Mr. K's Science Emporium!
