I've been a teacher for 20 years. I started my career teaching high school literature and creative writing classes. After a several-year hiatus as a stay-home mom (and volunteer preschool teacher), I returned to the classroom teaching ELA support classes for 7th and 8th graders. Indulging my love of Shakespeare, I also currently direct a student Shakespeare production each year with middle school kids. This is the most rewarding and productive experience of my teaching career.
I believe in the affective connection. If students can connect on an emotional level with the text and express themselves creatively, they make the material their own and will remember it forever. I am also interested in appealing to the multiple intelligences of my students. I try to teach to different learning styles so that there is something for everyone.
