I provided speech-language therapy services in the public schools of Oklahoma for 18 years. In addition, I also coordinated a district RTI program for 10 years and then was licensed as a reading specialist. Now I am in private practice as an SLP, reading specialist, and certified as a structured literacy teacher by the International Dyslexia Association. My speech-language expertise is the foundation for all of my other trainings and certifications. We have a fantastic field that prepares us to not only work on traditional skills, but also more contemporary roles of reading.

Those in the teaching field know there aren't many formal awards for doing what we do every day. I work with kids and help them build a foundation for more learning every day. What could be better than that?

When I wasn't happy with the professional development for SLPs offered in my state, I created my own state-wide conference for school SLPs. Just because no one's ever done it that way, doesn't mean it can't be done!
