After teaching elementary students for 10 years in both general education and special education resource classes, I moved on up to middle school. I have 10 years of experience teaching all 3 middle school sciences (Earth, Life, and Physical) and Art.
Knowing that every class has students of all readiness levels, I prefer a multi-sensory approach to teaching. I like a structured & organized student-centered workspace. I facilitate learning by providing station work consisting of task cards, games, sorting activities, videos, & hands-on explorations. Middle schoolers aren't so different from elementary students. They LOVE songs, making models of clay or other 3-D materials, hand-on labs, games, Boom decks, Flocabulary, BrainPop, contests for candy =), colorful, artsy notes pages, and all the cuteness that little ones enjoy. Middle schoolers are also eager and ready to be challenged - beyond their comfort zone - to learn new skills, like how to create amazing presentations and online documents, or digital art.
