I have taught middle school (primary and secondary) since 2002, with particular emphasis in English, History or Humanities, and Vocal Music. My passion for poetry, literature, and writer's workshop makes my classroom vibrant with the beauties and wonders of language arts! I also equip my students with discerning literacy strategies to develop their informational reading and writing skills towards university and career relevance. I challenge my students to create projects and integrate technology and the arts in real-world ways. I make Humanities hands-on through biography, geography, and cultural projects, as well as simulations and plays! (During our study of the Renaissance, my Humanities students imitated Michelangelo by painting the ceiling of our school's hallway! One year, our classroom adopted the 3 branches of U.S. government, and the legislature replaced me with a student "president".) Besides my Elementary (K-8) Certification, my Music degree and songwriting accent my classroom or Choir and Musical Theater programs richly. I write songs to help students learn concepts quickly, and I direct students in writing and performing plays and musicals that bring literature and history to life on the stage!
