I have taught high school Family and Consumer Sciences for twelve years. I have taught Foods and Nutrition, Child Development I and II, Preschool Learning, Child Care Occupations, History of Fashion, Living Environments, Adult Living and Orientation to FACS. I have also taught at the community college and university levels. I have taught Instructional Methods, Introduction to Teaching and Early Childhood Clinical as dual credit for my high schoolers and Aging in the Family, Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising Budgeting, Family, Stress, and Resiliency, and Families in Crisis at Eastern Illinois University. I have served as an advisor for FCCLA and a student centered Group of Optimistic Deeds (GOOD). I currently facilitate an on-site preschool lab experience for high school students who want to go into teaching or related careers and children ages 3-5 in our community.
I am a huge believer and supporter of competency based education. I base my courses on project-based learning and hands-on activities. I want my students to see that our classroom is just that, OUR classroom, where each member is integral to the team.
